Sports Writing 101

1. Never use the term ‘home-Run’ in your football game article. This was my wife’s observation after reading my first football story roughly 3 years ago. Fortunately, they decided I would be a better photographer, and let me do that instead.

I always read the stories after the article was published, and began noticing some patterns. This year I was asked if I’d like to try the articles again. I decided, why not? I have learned a little. Much comes from noticing things on the field, and then tying it together with the play by play stats the school gives me access to, as well as looking though hundreds of images… Oh, then there’s always my favorite coach Travis. He is always willing to answer a question, no matter how silly it is, and I appreciate that!
